KlipFolio

A while ago, I talked about Desktop Sidebars. Eventually, I ended up installing KlipFolio. It is not one of the best sidebars available but I was attracted by one of the replies made by the developer. The developer said that KlipFolio is optimized to use lower than 7MB of memory depending on the types of klips that are running.

After installation, I was quite impressed when the memory usage was only around 4MB. The highest recorded was 7MB. At that time, I was thinking that KlipFolio might be for me.

Themes

There are quite a lot of themes available to choose from in order to match with the colors of your desktop or your wallpaper. It’s fairly easy to choose from the drop down box and more themes can be found online.

Interface

It is rather easy to navigate around KlipFolio and the klips are very flexible. You can move around the klips, dock it left, right, top or bottom. You can even have two KlipFolios docked on both left and right while the memory usage does not increase much.

Entering the options, you can easily manage the klips you installed. All the klips options are similar and simple. In my opinion, the options are way too simple that nothing much can be configured.

In addition, the transparency can be set.

Klips

There are not many klips to choose from which is quite disappointing. For example the world clock which I have is just showing a line of words with the city name and the time, both 12 hours and 24 hours. I have searched through the klips on the internet but could not find one with big digital or analogue clock.

The shortcuts are quite troublesome to create. I need to type in the complete path to the folder or the file and the icon is not picked-up automatically. Thus, I will just choose from the icons that KlipFolio provides.

Verdict

As much as I like about KlipFolio on its memory management, the types of klips available are just not that good. Before I formatted my hard disk, I have switched back to Yahoo! Widgets which serves me well.
